This novel had everything to appeal to me, not to mention the fact that Bretigne, in addition to the book cover, was also looking for an illustrator who could draw chapter headings and a map. Drawing the cover of the book was quite a problem. At the last stage of the project, I explained to Bretigne my difficulties in drawing young Annabel correctly. I don't regret going back for a second as the final illustration is as good as any author could hope for from a professional. Young Annabel Pickering falls headlong from the sky to the ground. The shadow of a menacing ship looms over the flying boat of her pirate friends.
