Taking Liberty - Me Too...

'Taking Liberty - Me Too...' is a combination of implied mixed messages. The Statue of Liberty references significant events in the history of the USA -regarded by millions as a representation and embodiment of cultural beliefs. It can be argued that Donald Trump's behaviour and rhetoric pre and post his election are not in tune with the values traditionally associated with a welcoming and embracing America. In the artwork, Trump appears to be actually taking a liberty with a female symbol and, at the same time, he is metaphorically 'Taking Liberty' by his action - in my mind, that aspect of the work chimes with the 'Me Too' campaign, which, given the evidence provided by a voice recording of Donald Trump (made before his presidency), exposing some of his attitudes to women, seems appropriate.
