NATURAL LIGHT IN TOWN

Imagine you open the door of your house without actually being able to see it immediately as it expands behind you and on the floor above. You know it’s there but you still need to walk up two flights of stairs to see it. Is it really possible to feel at home even though you’ve only just stepped through the doorway? Well, this is exactly what we have tried to convey with this project by exploiting and highlighting the apartment’s most significant and revealing features. In the outskirts of town, on the top floor of a multi-family building this apartment is flooded with light thanks to it’s large glass panes and offers a splendid view over Siena. Having taken down this parapet, which had been built to create some clearance space at the top of the stairs, we allowed the light to flood in from above and to come down into the main entrance below. The wall-surface finishing in the stairway, (painted in off white on Venetian plaster giving a polished and smooth effect) now goes up to the ceiling too thereby creating a unifying and continuous effect linking up the two levels which adds to the general integrated effect which was aimed for. Few other wall modifications were done as most of the attention was given to the choice of colours, materials and furniture, which all confer with the character and personality of the place.
