REVISITED TRADITION

How can one get an extra room out of this rather particular property considering the children have now grown up? We had to completely change the original layout of the place, which was characterised by these two main living and sleeping areas that were separated by a long central corridor allowing access and serving as the main entrance too. The apartment is located in the historic centre of the city and occupies the top two floors of the building. Originally, the lower floor was divided up in the classic way whereby all the rooms were on one side of a corridor. These small divided up rooms, which were used as lobbies, storage space or even living space, were all inadequate in size and inevitably badly lit. With the growing changing family needs we managed to adapt this property accordingly to the new family living needs. We therefore opened up all the previous juxtaposed and fragmented room spaces into a bright and free open space, which you step straight into from the main door. This also allowed direct access to the kitchen and dining area and respectfully created a more distanced sleeping area on the floor above. There were many impressive architectural and building interventions made necessary for carrying out such a project to achieve such objectives.
